The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have banned popular anonymous and controversial NGL Messaging App from serving under 18 children with a fine of $5 million.
The FTC authority described the act by the app as “reckless disregard for kids’ safety.” According to the FTC, NGL Messaging App which was meant to be a safe space for teenagers is representing the opposite while mandating the app to place an age gate preventing its services to people under 18.
In a statement yesterday the FTC said it has agreed in a settlement with NGL after discovering deceptive and false claims and consumer protection law breach by the app as well as illegal tracking of children’s information.
Responding, NGL Messaging App authorities refuted many of the FTC’s allegations as false but agreed to pay the fine of $5 million as well as stop servicing people under the age of 18 “We view this resolution as an opportunity to make NGL better than ever for our users and we think the agreement is in our best interest.”
